The January General Meeting features a presentation by Peter Hemstad with a focus on Itasca and other cold climate grape varietals. There will also be a tasting to accompany the talk.
Peter is one of the pioneers of cold climate grape varietals. He has been breeding grapes since 1985. During his 30-year career as the grape breeder at the University of Minnesota, Peter led the efforts to develop Frontenac, Frontenac Gris, La Crescent, Marquette, and Itasca. Since then, Peter founded Hemstad Genetics, and co-founded St. Croix Vineyards, one of the premier wineries in Minnesota. Peter is a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to hybrid and cold climate grape varietals, If you are growing grapes at home, making wines from local grapes, or have ever been curious about trying, this is a meeting to not miss. Please join us for this excellent opportunity!
We will also have a tasting to go along with the talk that will highlight these varietals and different winemaking techniques and styles.
As always, please feel free to show up at least 30 minutes early with a wine to be evaluated before the meeting starts at 7:00. This is a great opportunity to get feedback and advice. It's also fun!
